ODIN Discovery

ODIN Discovery

Over the years, I’ve discovered a lot – big and small, scientifically and personally.  Not just archaeology, space exploration and treasure, but more importantly, I’ve discovered a group of incredibly capable, positive and generous people. Between us, we’ve developed a serious portfolio of skills and equipment and a collection of thrilling stories of things waiting to be found.

We have so many exciting opportunities that my friends Will Westaway, Jan Francke, and I have decided to pool our resources and form ODIN Discovery. (Many thanks to Will Westaway and Andrew Sabo for producing the excellent website.)

ODIN Discovery isn’t a formal organization; it’s a flexible band of people and equipment with a “gentleman’s agreement” to work together to find lost things that benefit humanity. It doesn’t matter how big or small the target is.  If it’s important to someone and we think we have a chance of finding it, we’ll add it to our list… and try.

If you know of something lost or waiting to be discovered, let us know. If you think you can help out in any way, we’d love to hear from you!

The “Discovery” part of the name is there because we aren’t just looking—we are focused on the result.

The “Odin” part comes from a personal connection I feel with the Norse god. He was part of one of the first treasures I ever discovered, and he is arguably the preeminent god of wisdom and knowledge. He went as far as sacrificing himself to himself (?!) to gain the knowledge of the runes, the cosmos and magic.  Just as we send robots, drones, and probes out to search, Odin sent his ravens Huginn (“thought”) and Muninn (“memory”) to fly across the world and return to his shoulders, whispering everything they had seen and heard into his ear.

I know that we are going to discover a lot.
